Culinary Competition
I had the distinct pleasure of judging a culinary competition last evening at SMCC. The theme was fusion of two ethnic food. All six entries made me proud of the school from which I once graduated.
Unbeknown to me was the fact that Rosemarie Perry of SMCC staff was one of the contestants. She created the most incredible dish of Ahi Tuna and mango in a tortilla (won-ton wrapper) with a tomatillio salsa and soy reduction. It simply had all the elements of a true winner, texture, color, flavor, presentation.
This dish will long be among the most memorable of any I have eaten anywhere. Rosemary won first prize!

Naming Contest
Sodexo decided to hold an all campus contest to find a name that would suite both dining locations. The enthusiasm was overwhelming! Sodexo received about 75 entries for the Café, some of them very unique! The winner for this location was Kayla Ferrara, she won $100 in Flex Cash. The new name for the café is Seawolves Cafe. Sodexo felt this was appropriate where the sports teams on campus are the SMCC Seawolves. Congratulations Kayla!
The response to rename the main dining room was tremendous as well! There was 143 entries turned in, it was tough decision because there was so many good ones! Our congratulations go out to Casey Bourgoin, winning $100 in Flex Cash with the new dining room name, Oceanview Dining Hall. Great job everyone! |
